The first thing that you need to know about me is that I am a craft addict. I make things. Lots of things. All different kinds of things, and I do so for two main reasons.
Reason number 1: I love to try new things and to keep my hands busy. Boredom is my enemy.
Reason number 2: I am cheap. Or maybe frugal. Who knows? I love the look of nice things, but I see them in a store and I look at the price tag and I think, “I could MAKE that.” So I try. Sometimes I spend a bunch of money on supplies and find out NOPE, I cannot make that. Other times, I buy a bunch of supplies and start to play and a fetish is born. Whether or not I can manage to replicate the item that I originally desired, the very act of making something is fun. Its an adventure, and I LOVE IT!
The next thing that you need to know about me is that I go overboard. I cannot just make one of something. I make dozens. Different colours, different styles, different sizes. I get caught up in the idea of… what if I do it THIS way… and the next thing I know, the craft table is full.
The last thing that you need to know about me is that I am not patient. Obsessive. Not patient. The two things are totally different. Yes, I will spend hours researching, mostly by way of watching YouTube tutorials, but when it comes time to start I will dive right in full tilt. I am a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants crafter. I will not try to replicate the item that was made on the video. I will not try to start off small, or practice the same brush stroke three hundred times so that I get it just so.
I applaud people who can do that. I am not one of them. Nope. Just get out of my way and let me play because that is where the fun lies.
Some of my work turns out better than expected. Sometimes its a miserable failure. Sometimes I get stuck and I don’t know where to go from there and it never gets finished. Sometimes I get bored, or distracted and I walk away.
I don’t claim to be an expert at anything that I do, but I WILL have fun trying, and if you want to come along for the ride and try too. Great!
ps) credit for the photo goes to Jim Raley. If I took this picture, it would like a troll having a bad hair day. They all do.
